SEAA accepts reference questions in person, mail, and phone, but it is best to send us a detailed email inquiry. Because of our limited reading room space and small staff, we ask that you set up an appointment before coming to us. We are open Monday through Friday, hours for viewing our exhibits are 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.; 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Hours for research appointments are 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.; 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
The more information you have about a property, the better we will be able to assist you. Most buidling plans are organized by street address or building name, but knowing the architect/firm, approximate construction date, building type, client name, and any other information you can give us will help to determine if we have anything to assist in your research.
Please note that there is a difference between reference and research. We cannot do research for patrons. Research, writing, and publishing are all part of the larger research process. We will do everything we can to direct you to useful resources within our holdings, or suggest other institutions, but we cannot choose, select, read, translate, or interpret our holdings for you. Because of the fragile nature of our holdings, we cannot permit browsing of collections.

Once you have made an appointment, please read the following guidelines--
- Check in at Special Collections Division's Main Reading Room, 202, Jones Hall.
- Present current photo ID to reading room attendant and sign register.
- You will be asked to complete a digital registration form.
- Store personal belongings in an available locker. You will be issued a key.
- Go to SEAA Reading Room, 300, Jones Hall.
- Sign SEAA register.
- Read our guidelines (on each reading room table).
- Complete a Reference Request Form (blue/top of card catalog).
- Return to Main Reading Room to collect ID and personal belongings by 4:30 p.m.
Researchers may bring to SEAA, Room 300, notepad/paper, pencils (no ink pens), wireless laptop computer (w/o bag), non-flash camera/cellphone for self photography, and anything needed to support a medical condition.
All coats, bags, briefcases, umbrellas, and other personal items should be checked into a locker in Room 202. SEAA prohibits food and drink.
Please refrain from wearing perfumes, colognes, and scented products. Archives staff are allergic to them.
Cellphones are permitted only for self photography. No phone conversations please.
