Handling Our Materials
The SEAA maintains a large body of architectural materials in many different formats: drawings, photographs, diapositives, blueprints, etc. We request your compliance with our use policies in order to ensure the preservation of our holdings. If at any time, you have questions about the handling of the materials you have requested, please do not hesitate to ask. In many instances, the SEAA retains the only extant copy of the project work.
To minimize adverse effects of light, climate fluctuations, and material damage, the item requested should be handled as little as possible. To prevent unnecessary harm to SEAA holdings, we prohibit browsing through collections. If you require research assistance, please schedule a consultation with SEAA staff, 504.865.5699 or by email to kevinw@tulane.edu.
The following rules apply to the safe handling of SEAA materials:
- Any problems or questions regarding the materials should be directed towards SEAA staff.
- Frequent hand washing limits the deposit of oil and dirt on the materials.
- Keep the materials flat on the table at all times.
- Remove dangling jewelry or bulky watches that may cause damage.
- Do not lean, write or place any object on the surface of SEAA materials.
- Ask for SEAA staff assistance in moving oversized materials.
- Blueprints and other chemically processed materials may require handling with gloves. For researchers with allergies or sensitive skin, these materials may cause adverse reactions.
- Material should be kept in the order in which it is found. If the item appears to be out of order, do not rearrange it. Ask for the assistance of SEAA staff.
Please note: Many items require special attention when handled. SEAA staff will be responsible to provide specific instructions, as relevant.
