Seed Catalogs from Tulane's Special Collections Division

This online exhibit showcases catalog covers from Reuter's Seed Company Incorporated, a New Orleans supplier of seeds, bulbs, plants, and other gardening products.  The company was founded by Chris A. Reuter, Sr. (1861-1929), who began his career as a produce shipper in the French Market. The Reuter's seed catalogs document changing mail-order business practices, as well as the dramatic shifts in American agriculture wrought by the automobile, hybridization, and chemical intervention.

This exhibit draws from the combined resources of the Louisiana Research Collection (202 Jones Hall) and the Southeastern Architectural Archive (300 Jones Hall). It was created by Archivist Kevin Williams.
