Southeastern Architectural Archive

Keli Rylance, Ph.D./C.A.

Head of the Southeastern Architectural Archive. An archivist and an art historian, Dr. Rylance is particularly interested in the history of books and printing.  She has written for Archivaria, ARLIS/NA Reviews, The Jazz Archivist, Public Art Review, The Encyclopedia of Gardens: History and Design, The Encyclopedia of Twentieth-Century Architecture, and Utopian Studies. She is the recipient of the first Hugh A. Taylor Prize, which recognizes innovative archival scholarship, for her article "Archives and the Intangible." Other awards include grants/subventions from the American Printing History Association, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Program for Cultural Cooperation between Spain’s Ministry of Culture and the United States’ Universities, and the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the American Library Association. She is a former Co-Chair of the Society of American Archivists’ Architectural Records Roundtable and  Board Member of DOCOMOMO-U.S. (International Working Party for the Documentation and Conservation of Buildings, Sites, and Neighborhoods of the Modern Movement), and currently serves on  the Orleans Parish Landmarks Commission. 

Kevin Williams

Archivist.  Kevin Williams has been an archivist with the Southeastern Architectural Archive since 1991. During that time, he planned the SEAA's new office and stacks spaces and coordinated the move from its original location in the basement of Howard-Tilton Memorial Library to its new home in Joseph Merrick Jones Hall and the Tulane University Recovery Center.  He created the department's first website, as well as its first online exhibits, and the first library archival collection online finding aids. He co-curates department exhibitions, assists a wide variety of researchers, processes collections, and is responsible for hiring and supervising the department’s student assistants, and co-supervises department interns. From 1992-1998, he also served as acting registrar for the Tulane University art collection.

Alan Velasquez

Library Unit Coordinator.  Alan Velasquez has been a staff member of the Architecture Library since 2004 and Unit Coordinator since 2006.  He is responsible for daily operations of the Architecture Library, which include processing all new materials, providing assistance to patrons, coordinating course reserves, performing administrative functions, hiring and supervising student workers, and serving as liaison to the Architecture faculty.

Shirley Oechsner Howe Burns

Library Technician.  Shirley Burns is a 1996 graduate of Tulane University who has been working in the School of Architecture Library since February 2008.
